Antonio DeMarco Hopes To Get Crack at Jessie Vargas

By Salvador Rodriguez

Former lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (31-3-1, 23KOs) is focused on winning another world title in his new division, junior welterweight. On Saturday night in Tecate, DeMarco overcame a knockdown in the first round to win a ten round unanimous decision over tough veteran Lanardo Tyner.

DeMarco hopes his performance was enough to entice WBA 'regular' champion Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9KOs) to give him an opportunity.

"It was a tough fight. [Tyner] was came here from being a sparring partner for Mayweather. It was a good challenge. We had six months of inactivity, but the job got done," DeMarco said.

"I like to give the people a show. The people deserve it. He was a strong fighter and caught me with a good punch, but we already knew [what kind of fighter he was] as he went the distance with Canelo. Hopefully Jessie Vargas decides [to fight me]. It would be a good fight for the fans. Hopefully he decides [to do that]."

Yeah I thought Novikov should have won. De Marco can beat Vargas, he can probably ko him. Vargas is getting stopped very soon

I could see them making it to add a name to Vegas Vargas

Vargas should rematch Khabib or Novikov. He lost both of his last two fights.

I don't see DeMarco having much success at 140. I'd take Vargas if they fight.
