Antonio DeMarco Destroys John Molina in 44 Seconds

By Rick Reeno

Oracle Arena, Oakland, California - WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21KOs) destroyed John Molina (24-2, 19KOs) in the first round. Within seconds, DeMarco blasted him on the chin with a hard left hand and Molina was out on his feet. DeMarco unloaded with a massive amount of punches on Molina in the corner until the referee jumped in to wave it off. The fight was stopped at 44 seconds.

For whatever reason, Molina stood in the corner and was taking punches without taking a knee - and that forced the referee to wave it off.

Joe Goossen, Molina's trainer, said afterwards - "John should have taken a knee and gotten an eight count, but it's hard to think when you're in a position like that."

Boxing is definitely the theater of the unexpected. Wish Molina had taken the knee and we could've seen if he could of made it a fight.

The ref did the right thing Molina should have went to one knee and got a standing eight count. I was going for Molina but the better fighter won the fight Molina has no one to blame but himself.

Yep, when fighters fall into that situation they´re out of the battle and become very vulnerable to permanent damage, fights should be stopped immediately,

i didnt feel that the stoppage was appropriate, as molina jr was stunned, but not out, but he was not behaving professionally you have to keep your head up and above your opponents waist. if it's bobbing lower than that…
