Anthony Joshua: I'd Love To Fight Until I'm 40 Years Old

ANTHONY JOSHUA will step into the ring for just the 20th time as a professional when he defends his heavyweight championship against Kubrat Pulev next month.

But, if the 27-year-old has his way, there will be plenty more historic nights for boxing fans to look forward to.

During an exclusive chat with Daily Star Online, Joshua – who currently holds the WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles – claimed he wanted to emulate the careers of fighters like Floyd Mayweather and Wladimir Klitschko.

Prior to hanging up the gloves this year, both Klitschko and Mayweather extended glittering boxing careers into their 40s – and AJ clearly fancies the same.

“If I could predict the future and I could plan it, yeah, I’d love to fight until I’m 40,” he told Daily Star Online.

“It’s the natural thing to do. I think nowadays there’s so much going on with health, nutrition, rest and recovery that we can preserve our bodies a lot longer a lot of athletes used to.

“I’d love to use all this equipment and science and technology to fight for a lot longer.”

In the immediate future, however, Joshua will have his hands full when he welcomes 36-year-old Pulev to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on October 28.

The durable challenger has only ever been stopped once – at the hands of Wladimir Klitschko in 2014 – although many expect Joshua to bulldoze the Bulgarian with ease.

Joshua’s WBA and IBF titles will be on the line but with bookmakers Betfair currently pricing Pulev a rank outsider at 10/1, he is fancied to remain undefeated.
