Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield - 2012 heavyweight gold medal winner Anthony Joshua (2-0, 2KOs) drilled Paul Butlin (14-20, 3KOs) in two rounds. Butlin was able to survive the first round, but within seconds of the second he was decked hard by a big right hand. Butlin was badly cut, out on his feet and his corner threw in the towel a few seconds later.
In a WBO junior middleweight final eliminator, Javier Maciel (27-3, 20KOs) traveled overseas with a lot of steam in his fists, but he was unable to defeat Brian Rose (25-1-1, 7KOs), who won a twelve round split decision. The scores were 117-111 for Rose, 115-113 for Maciel and 116-113 for Rose.
Maciel started fast and busted the nose of Rose. Maciel appeared to be the strong fighter in the early rounds and he was much busier. By the sixth round, Marcial was starting to slow down and appeared to be out of wind. Maciel came back in the tenth round and started rallying hard in the eleventh. Rose began to battle back in the final minute of the eleventh when Maciel got tired. The twelfth round was close as both of them were trying to clinch the final point.
Super middleweight prospect Callum Smith (9-0, 7KOs) knocked out Ruben Eduardo Acosta (27-9-5, 10KOs) in the sixth round to capture the vacant WBC International title.
Super bantamweight prospect Khalid Yafai (9-0, 6KOs) secured a six round decision over Santiago Bustos (6-3-1, 3KOs) with a sole score of 59-55.
