LAS VEGAS – Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant were kept apart again after they weighed in Friday afternoon at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Fearful of another brawl on stage, organizers of their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event separated the super middleweight champions from the time they arrived until the time they left. They jawed at each other from several feet away, with promoter Tom Brown, event security and even Mike Tyson between them.

LAS VEGAS – Anthony Dirrell has trained here for the past couple of months in preparation for his fight against Marcos Hernandez on Saturday night.
Three high-stakes matchups featuring former world champions, top contenders and rising future champions have been added to the highly anticipated SHOWTIME PPV event headlined by Canelo Álvarez and Caleb “Sweethands” Plant battling for the undisputed super middleweight championship on Saturday, November 6 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
David Benavidez does not understand why he cannot be next in line to face Caleb Plant. Benavidez, a former super middleweight titleholder, is set to headline against Venezuelan contender Jose Uzcategui in Benavidez’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona on Aug. 28 at the Phoenix Arena.
There were many observers surprised both by the verdict in the recent super middleweight title eliminator between Anthony Dirrell and Kyrone Davis and the fact that it came down to sweating out the final scorecards. Caleb Plant was not among those particularly caught off guard by either scenario—so much that the unbeaten super middleweight titlist didn’t even bother to watch the event in real time.
The only thing David Benavidez wanted to hear more than his name announced as the winner was who is next and how soon he gets back in the ring. The former two-time WBC super middleweight titlist gave himself a chance to fight for his old crown again following an 11th round stoppage win over Ronald Ellis. Benavidez overcame a slow 1st round to otherwise dominate the 31-year-old Lynn, Massachusetts product en route to a one-sided victory Saturday evening on Showtime from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Anthony Dirrell (33-2-2) and Kyrone Davis (15-2-1) battled to a split draw in Los Angeles this last Saturday in the main event of a FOX tripleheader. The final scores were 115-113, 114-114 and 113-115.
It wasn’t the verdict he wanted to hear, nor the circumstances under which Anthony Dirrell wanted to finish the fight. Nevertheless, the former two-time super middleweight titlist quickly came to grips with his 12-round draw versus Kyrone Davis in their Fox-televised title eliminator Saturday evening at Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
