Shawn Porter and David Benavidez had a 10-round sparring session together to prepare for their respective bouts as headliner and co-headliner on Sept. 28 for FOX’s pay-per-view card from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
David Benavidez and Shawn Porter weren’t looking for style similarities to their upcoming bouts when they agreed to a recent sparring session, just the chance for two consummate gym rats to get in some extra work.
WBC super middleweight champion Anthony "The Dog" Dirrell is not impressed with undefeated challenger David Benavidez. The two boxers were scheduled to face each other in the past, but injuries and other issues forced them in separate directions.

At age 34 and having boxed—pro and amateur—for nearly a quarter-century, Anthony Dirrell readily admits that there aren’t many years left in his boxing career. Where he’ll never quit fighting, however, is in the ongoing battle to forever better the lives of those in his hometown of Flint, Mich.
Anthony Dirrell doesn’t put much stock into David Benavidez’s sparring session with Shawn Porter—especially since it won’t at all prepare the unbeaten super former super middleweight titlist for their own upcoming clash.
A year after testing positive for cocaine cost him the WBC super middleweight title, David Benavidez is back in position to regain it. If Benavidez beats Anthony Dirrell on September 28, the undefeated Phoenix native is certain that the ordeal has better prepared him to behave like a champion inside and outside the ring this time around.
