The World Boxing Council is confirming the sanctioning of the voluntary defense by WBC champion super middleweight Anthony Dirrell versus number 10 rated contender Badou Jack on April 24th. They also set down that the winner must face mandatory contender, WBC silver champion George Groves, without any intervening fights. The free negotiations period for the Dirrell/Jack vs. Groves mandatory fight will begin immediately on Monday, April 26th.
Dirrell (27-0-1, 22KOs) is making his first defense since capturing the title last August with a twelve round decision win over Sakio Bika. Jack (18-1-1, 12KOs) has won two in a row since a shocking first round knockout loss to Dereck Edwards last February. He recovered with wins over Jason Escalera and Francisco Sierra.
Dirrell is represented by Al Haymon's Haymon Boxing, while Jack is promoted by Floyd Mayweather's Mayweather Promotions.
The TV network has not been announced, but since it falls on a Friday - it is potentially going to land on Spike TV, which has an exclusive deal with Haymon.
