Undefeated Cuban contender Angelo "La Cobra" Santana showed a lot of heart when his opponent at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas fell out several days ago, and he agreed to face fellow unbeaten Ramzan Adaev (8-0-1), from Russia, on Saturday's undercard to the bantamweight unification between Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares.
Santana exploded with devastating flurries in the second round before referee Kenny Bayless halted the punishment at 2:02 into the round. Santana improved to (11-0, 8 KOs) and picked up his first regional title, the WBA FEDECARIBE super lightweight Caribbean title.
"I wanted to make a statement to my promoter, Don King; the sport of boxing; and boxing fans everywhere that I am ready to fight the best at the 140-pound limit," Santana said. "I want Brandon Rios or Vernon Paris."
