Angel Garcia on Herrera: You Have To Beat The Champ

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

Angel Garcia, father/trainer of WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, says Mauricio Herrera did not do enough to win the titles on Saturday night in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Herrera put forth a very good effort and fell on the cards with a majority decision. One judge had scored it a 114-114 draw, the exact score that several experts tallied at ringside.

Angel complains that Herrera fought dirty and the referee allowed it to continue. He wasn't impressed with Danny's victory, but fully believes his son pulled in enough rounds to get the decision.

"It was a good fight. Herrera came to fight, but you have to beat the champion. You have to knock the champion down. You can't just have a good fight, you have to beat the champion. Anybody could have a good fight. But you have to beat the champ. He didn't win, we won. It wasn't 100% of Danny and Danny could do better that. He won and that was his worst day, imagine that. If he was on his A-game... I'm not satisfied with the win, but he won," Angel said.

"Basically Herrera was coming in with his head. He was fighting like a bull. He was headbuting the sh*t out of Danny. [Herrera] kept complaining about rabbit punches, but he was using his head. He never hurt the champ. The champ did what he had to do and won."

[QUOTE=mistermartin]Oh wow. I'll have to rewatch the beginning of that fight. I only remember wut felt like TB trynaoad up on shots early. But I do kno ur right about him reacting to getting tagged by going into fight-mode. That's part of why I think he'll get clipped at some point in an ecxhange...

The bull deserves a rematch....Swift didn't drop the ball but he fumbled it enough to get his critics/haters up and singing background for the bull Herrera.....give him another shot, if not for the belts, do it at WW :boxing:

[QUOTE=northstar]Herrera took a lot of punishment against Ruslan; his left eye was damn near swollen shut after the third round. Danny, in "beating" Herrera, didn't even come close to inflicting such damage. It also should be noted that many felt that Ruslan won that fight. Bradley actually st...

[QUOTE=mistermartin]Yeah. I prefer civil debates...even if it gets spirited its all good w/ me so long as a coherent point is being argued. It's fun to trade opinions. Anyhow, u r correct about the majority of how Bradley fought that night. The point is tho, that had he not decided to begin t...

[QUOTE=northstar]What's funny is that this convo is relatively civil lol! Now back to the debate. He was held somewhat at bay. Both Bradley and Herrera took tremendous punishment. They both also used a lot of movement, and defensive maneuvers. To top it all off, they both combined, threw an av...
