Andres Gutierrez, Irma Garcia Shine in Queretaro

By Miguel Rivera

Fans got action during the triplehead staged by Canelo Promotions at the Auditorio General Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico. All three fights were televised by Televisa and Fox Deportes.

In the main event, Andres Gutierrez (28-0-1, 22KOs) retained his WBC silver super bantamweight crown with a wide decision over Filipino Ernie Sanchez (14-4, 5KOs). Gutierrez controlled the action from start to finish and peppered the game Filipino challenger with power shots from both hands.

Yazmin Rivas (28-8, 9KOs) lost a shocking ten round split decision to Jessica Gonzalez (4-1) in their fight for the interim-WBC bantamweight title. Most at ringside felt Rivas had done enough to win, but two of the judges disagreed. The scores were 98-92 for Rivas and 96-94, 96-95 for Gonzalez.

And Irma Garcia (8-1-1, 1KO) fought her way to a ten round majority decision over Magali Rodriguez (13-5-1, 7KOs) in their battle for the WBA bantamweight title. The scores were 96-94, 95-95 and 97-95.
