Next month, Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs) will go for more gold when he challenges Sergey Kovalev (30-0, 26KOs) for the WBO/IBF/WBA light heavyweights titles.

Their matchup is arguably the most anticipated fight of the year. The winner will be regarded, by a lot of experts, as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.

Despite the upcoming showdown with Kovalev, Ward is continuously asked about the possibility of fighting WBA/IBO/WBC/IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs).

Last year, Ward's handlers had attempted to make that fight at 168-pounds. The discussions didn't go very far after Golovkin's team had advised Roc Nation Sports that Ward wasn't an option until the first half of 2017 at the earliest. Once that answer was given, Ward moved up to 175.

If Ward comes out victorious next month against Kovalev, would he consider the possibility of dropping back for Golovkin?

He says there no chance of dropping to a catch-weight for Golovkin. If that fight were to happen - and Ward believes it never will - it would have to take place at light heavyweight.

"I think that fight has sailed, that fight is never going to happen," said Ward to Sky Sports. "Once you go up in weight, I will never go down, you just don't do it.

"He had his opportunity to fight me. An offer was made, his side has gone on to say a lot of things that were not true. I am not interested in refuting those things, he had his opportunity and did not want to fight, so I have moved on."

Kovalev vs. Ward "Pound For Pound", a 12-round mega-fight for the WBO/IBF/WBA Light Heavyweight World Titles, takes place Saturday, Nov. 19, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. "Pound for Pound" is presented by Main Events, Roc Nation Sports, Krusher Promotions and Andre Ward Promotions and is sponsored by MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Rosneft and Corona Extra.
