Andre Ward: Despite Lawsuit, Asked Goossen for Fights

by David P. Greisman

The last time that Andre Ward was in the ring was in November 2013. We’re now approaching May 2014, and nothing has been set yet for the super middleweight champion, whose only appearances on HBO since then have been in his role as a commentator for the network.

Ward has been wrangling in court since last year in hopes of breaking with promoter Dan Goossen of Goossen-Tutor Promotions. But Ward says he wants to return in the ring even if that situation isn’t yet resolved.

He released this statement via his website on Friday:

“I want to clear up all the speculation about when I will fight next. Reports that I am holding out or don’t want to fight are simply untrue. My fans should know that despite my lawsuit against Goossen Tutor Promotions, I have asked Dan Goossen to set up my next fight as soon as possible. Actually, I’ve been ready to fight since December.

“I know this a frustrating time for my fans and I appreciate your patience and all the encouragement you’ve given me. I hope to be back in the ring very soon.”

The 30-year-old from Oakland is 27-0 with 14 KOs.
ward is a potential legend who's frozen on the shelf, damn shame.
He did this one to himself. I believe this is the third time he's suing goosen, if not the second

The perfect scenario is that this all becomes too exhausting and complicated a process for Bored and he finally wilts and throws in the towel on his career. He's had his time, had his place, let's move on from this…

He hasn't really been boring in his recent fights. That's just something that people desperately latch on to because they want to discredit him so bad, since none of their fighters (usually Euros) have been able to beat him in…
