Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer advised BoxingScene.com that former champion Amir Khan (26-3, 18KOs) will return to the ring on December 15th. The location and venue, and the opponent, has not been determined.

On July 14th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Khan was shockingly upset in four rounds by undefeated Danny Garcia (24-0, 15KOs), who unified the WBC/WBA junior welterweight titles with the victory.

Khan wanted an immediate rematch with Garcia in December, but that may or may not happen in 2012. As BoxingScene previously reported, Garcia will defend his titles in a rematch with Erik Morales on October 20th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York .

"We'll have to see [who Amir's opponent will be]. We'll have to see what opportunities there are. There are so many exciting matchups in these weight classes. I would certainly appreciate and understand that Amir is going to want to have a rematch and I'm sure the rematch is going to happen - unless of course Erik Morales wins [in October] and then if Erik Morales wins the logically thing would be to do a third fight between those two," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
