British star Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs), like many other fighters, is sitting back and waiting patiently to see what Floyd Mayweather Jr. decides to do on May 2nd.
Khan has yet to book an opponent, or a return date, in order to keep himself available for a Mayweather opportunity. The same goes for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, who is currently in deep negotiations to face Mayweather. Miguel Cotto is being mentioned as a possible Mayweather opponent.
And even Saul Alvarez vs. James Kirkland is without a concrete date because Golden Boy and HBO are waiting for Mayweather to announce his plans.
Khan has been there before, sitting out for months with the belief he was facing Mayweather in May of 2014 - only to be passed over for Marcos Maidana.
"It's been crazy, I don't know what's going on," Khan said to ESPN UK. "Floyd likes to leave things to the last minute and we've done no paperwork, no nothing, but my name is always mentioned. With Mayweather he wants to drag it on as long as possible. I'm sure he's been training a little bit and whoever I fight in May, I am back in training on Friday."
