Amir Khan Explains Why He Can Beat Mayweather

by Rick Reeno

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Former champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) is still unsure as to which direction he plans to take for his scheduled return on December 7th in the United States. Golden Boy Promotions is staging an internal junior welterweight tournament. On May 18th, Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs) will face IBF champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16KOs). The winner of the match will take on WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) on September 7th - and the winner of that match will be positioned to face Khan.

However, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com that Khan could also move up to the welterweight division to face the winner of the IBF championship fight between Devon Alexander and Lee Purdy, which takes place on May 18th.

"Whatever makes the most financial sense. I wanted a Garcia rematch but they are doing a mini-tournament and that means I have to wait long [for the winner]. The thing is, I know for the fact that [Garcia] will move up to 147, so if it makes sense to move up and take this big fight, and if it financially makes sense, and if it takes me to a super-fight with Floyd Mayweather - then 100% I would do it," Khan said to BoxingScene.com.

Khan was ringside at the MGM, and watched WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) win a twelve round decision over Robert Guerrero. Khan explained why a fighter like himself has the tools to beat Mayweather. He says boxers like Guerrero are too slow and speed is necessary to win.

"In order to fight Floyd, you need speed or there is no point in fighting him. That's the only thing I can honestly say. That's why Guerrero didn't do well, he has no speed. People with no speed will never give Floyd problems. There is no point in getting in the ring with him if you aren't fast," Khan told BoxingScene.com.

Mayweather would stop Khan, who is so easy to hit and has a weak chin,i think he would get stopped if Floyd put his foot on the gas

[quote=money_may;13332414]lol at the title being completely misleading. Khan did not say i will beat floyd because of my speed. He said to beat floyd you need speed. As per usual 80% of the people that post on here don't read…

[QUOTE=Mike_R;13333472]Khan is basically a guaranteed KO win for Floyd if they fight. This is also why I think they will probably fight if Khan can just hang in and win another fight or 2. Pretty big name (despite everything) and…
