Amir Khan, Alex Ariza To Grace Flash Elorde Annual Awards

by Ronnie Nathanielsz

Former WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza who also handles Khan, will grace the 12th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Annual Awards at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City on Sunday.

Ariza told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard that they are scheduled to arrive from Los Angeles on Saturday morning and would be happy to attend the annual “Banquet of Champions” where Congressman Pacquiao will be the guest of honor and speaker.

Two Philippine title fights will spice up the affair with Monico Laurente battling Rey Las Pinas for the vacant bantamweight title and veteran Dennis Laurente defending his welterweight title against Eusebio Baluarte.

The fights as well as the awards ceremony will be covered by Viva Sports and telecast the following Sundays on the top-rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event” at 11:00 a.m. over AKTV IBC 13 and sponsored by Cobra Energy Drink, “Tunay na Lakas”.

Khan will train alongside Pacquiao although Ariza said they will not spar with each other.

Ariza disclosed that Pacquiao had told him he would like to begin training for the showdown with undefeated Timothy Bradley on June 9 in Las Vegas, by March 26.

The strength and conditioning guru said he expects Pacquiao to work out for some time in Manila before moving to his regular training camp in Baguio City.
