Alvarado's Trainer: Provodnikov is Tailor-Made for Mike

By Edward Chaykovsky

As BoxingScene.com reported earlier, Mike Alvarado (34-1) is going to face Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2) on October 19th at the 1st Bank Center in Denver, Colorado. Alvarado's trainer, Shann Vilhauer, admits he wanted an easier fight for his boxer, but he views the hard-punching Provodnikov as the perfect opponent, style-wise, for his boxer. Alvarado is the better boxer, which his trainer believes will be the key to victory.

"I was hoping for an easier showcase fight for Mike," said Vilhauer told The Denver Post. "Something like Stevie Johnston's title defense at the Magness Arena. But this is HBO. They ain't gonna put garbage on that network. We'll just keep Mike boxing. Not so much fighting. [Provodnikov] is tailor-made for Mike. Mike's a better athlete."

Alvarado's manager, Henry Delgado, agrees.

"This matchup is perfect for Mike. Mike can do what he wants. He can bang and he can box," Delgado said.

Provodnikov has one good fight, a fight he lost and all of a sudden he is a world beater. Bradley has always had a suspect chin. This will still be a good, solid, brawl and that should last 8-9 rounds.…

This won't even be close. Provo beat the living daylights out of Tim Bradley and got screwed out of the win; nearly had Bradley stretched out cold in the final round, per Bradley's OWN description. Provo is too big, too…

Provodnikov is going to get to him, stoppage inside 8. He won't be denied twice.

Provodnikov bruises too easily, his defense is actually worse than Rios, Rios will at least smother you and roll with punches at times, Provodnikov does none of that. I don't think Alvarado has to move that much either, Provod ain't…

I feel sorry for Alvarado. He's going to get folded in his hometown...
