Alexander vs. Brook Will Be a "Night of Welterweights"

By Rick Reeno

According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, Devon Alexander (24-1, 13KOs) vs. Kell Brook (29-0, 19KOs) will be the crowning jewel of a Showtime televised all-welterweight tripleheader - which may become a quadrupleheader. There will also be two welterweight fights on Showtime Extreme. In all, there could six welterweight fights that night, says Schaefer, with Alexander defending his IBF title against Brook in the main event.

The card takes place on January 19th and the venue will be finalized in the next few days.

"It will be a welterweight card, stacked with welterweights. It is a very deep division, so we want to showcase many different welterweights who are right there and breaking through. It will be at least a tripleheader, on Showtime, possibly a quadrupleheader and there will be as well a Showtime Extreme with two fights - so we could see, possibly, six welterweight fights that night," Schaefer said.
