WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) is not interested in a potential clash with Tomasz Adamek, according to the Polish star. Povetkin returns on July 14th in Hamburg, defending his title against mandatory challenger Hasim Rahman. Adamek, who recently won a twelve round decision over past Povetkin opponent Eddie Chambers, will return on September 8th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Adamek says there were discussions, but Povetkin's handlers are targeting other avenues. There was little chance that Povetkin would have traveled to Newark, Adamek's second home, to defend the title.

"My manager Ziggy spoke with Povetkin's promoter, but his team is not interested in staging the fight," Adamek said.
I wouldn't be surprised if Povetkin faced Evander Holyfield next. I think Holyfield was ringside at his last fight and called him out...
Exactly,, If Rahman wasn't the mando then Povetkin/Holyfield would have been made and could still be Adamek/Huck sounds alright ...

povetkin has always been carefully matched. he never fights anyone who can actually punch hard. i say fight sam peter now that rahman is out.

I guess Rahman didn't want it with Pov. This is Holyfield's chance to get his final shot at the title. It's now or never. Pov vs Holyfield....make it happen!

Personally I would prefer to see Adamek beat Huck now,the Povetkin match up had the potential to be a cracker,Adamek would really take the fight to him.If Adamek could get a Huck fight and beat him in style it would literally have people calling for the Adamek v Povetkin match up,I'm intrigued to...

What a great era for heavyweight boxing when a title holder and supposed 3rd best fighter at the weight will not fight a real challenge, but will accept them from cruiserweights and old men. Fans of this division have SO much to be proud of!! :lol1:
