Anthony Ferrante’s kayo of previously undefeated cruiserweight Isa Akberbayev was one of the most vivid impressions of this year’s start. Ferrante smashed the Kazakh fighter with a chilling right hand in the tenth and final round of their January 19 fight in New York. Akberbayev was dropped down face first and the fight ended without a count.

However, it looks like this spectacular win will now be overruled. Oleg Hermann of Team Golovkin, who also manages Akberbayev, confirmed to Allboxing.ru that Ferrante failed a post-fight drug test, and the result will now be turned to “No Contest” by the NYSAC. The Kazakh’s IBO I/C title will also be brought back to its previous owner.

“I’m very content we have worked this out. Thanks to everyone involved. Drugs have no place in prizefighting, and cheaters should gain nothing of their use”, commented Hermann.

Akberbayev was 10-0, 7 KOs, coming in, while Ferrante had a record of 12-4, with 7 KOs.
