Promoter Ahmet Oner is well known for promoting some of the best Cuban fighters like Yuriorkis Gamboa and Odlanier Solis. Tonight in Philadelphia Oner presents his next up and coming Cuban star in fast rising light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (8-0, 6 KOs). As an amateur Barrera has beaten the likes of former world champion Chad Dawson and current WBA titlist Beibut Shumenov. With only eight pro-fights the hard-hitting 29-year-old has earned himself the #9 spot in the WBA ratings and is very likely to fight for his first professional world title soon.

"When I first saw Sullivan in the gym I knew that he is one hundred percent championship material", says Oner. "He has been brought up just light Gamboa. And actually it was Gamboa who introduced him to me and made our promotional deal possible. Sullivan is an extraordinary talent. I don’t see anybody at 175 who can beat him. He is just that good."

Tonight at Philadelphia’s Asylum Arena Barrera takes on unbeaten Damar Singleton (8-0) form Toledo, Ohio as part of the premiere of "NBC Sports Network Fight Night" promoted by Kathy Duva (Main Events) who is also Oner’s co-promoter for Barrera. "I appreciate working with Kathy Duva and Main Events", says Oner. "They are all very professional and doing a wonderful job. I keep my fingers crossed that her new NBC series will be a great success and we will do our best to help and support her wherever we can."
He has always matched them aggressively, one good thing you can say about him. And brought them over to Miami, and signed some pretty good copromotional deals with the TR/GBP. He could have left them languishing in Germany, like the Irish Cubans. But even post (or ...
Oner has nothing to do with our fighters remaining amateurs or not. If they defect from Cuba, they can be picked up by any promoter. Any promoter would be happy to represent guys like Gamboa or Rigondeaux. Oner just happened to be in the right place at the right time, with hung...
I really wish Oner would keep his slimy mitts off our prospects.
If he didn´t they would be still amateurs and living in Cuba, not that is a bad thing to live there like American media tells us.
