CINCINNATI — Former four division world champion Adrien Broner won’t be released early from a 30-day jail sentence for contempt of court.

A judge in Cincinnati on Thursday told the former WBA Super Lightweight champion that his celebrity wouldn’t earn him leniency. The Hamilton County judge noted Broner was sentenced after showing up “three hours late and drunk” for his scheduled July 19 trial on felonious assault and aggravated robbery charges. Broner had said he was sick.

The felony charges against Broner arose from a lawsuit filed by a man accusing Broner of pointing a handgun at him during a dispute over gambling and knocking him unconscious.

Broner has been out of the ring since an April stoppage of TMT member Ashley Theophane. Broner failed to make weight for that contest and was stropped of the WBA junior weltrerweight championship. Following the fight, he revealed his intentions to move back up to the welterweight limit. Broner has not fought at the full welterweight limit of 147 since suffering his first career defeat back in 2013 at the hands of Marcos Maidana.
