Former four division world champion Adrien Broner was released from custody on Wednesday, after serving a court ordered 30-day jail term for appearing about three hours late for a July 19 court date.
Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman had previously found Broner in contempt of court for the late appearance and handed down the 30-day punishment.
While Broner was released from custody, he is required to return to Ruehlman's courtroom on September 21 - where the boxer will stand trial on charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery in connection with a January 21 incident outside of a bowling alley, according to Cincinnati.com
According to the claims being made by the victim, Broner pointed a handgun, knocked him unconscious and robbed him - after losing thousands of dollars during a few games of high stakes bowling.
Back in July, the judge was planning to dismiss the case after the alleged victim failed to appear at the hearing. If the victim fails to appear in September, the case will be dismissed, says the judge. If he appears the case will head to trial.
Broner has been out of the ring since an April stoppage win over Ashley Theophane in Washington, D.C. Broner failed to make the 140-pound limit for the contest, which causes him to lose his WBA junior welterweight title on the scale. He promised to resume his career in the welterweight division, where he once held the WBA championship before dropping down to 140.
