Adonis Stevenson "Kovalev Fight Will Happen This Year"

Shortly after his 2nd round destruction of Ismayl Sillakh on November 30th, WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev immediately called out WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson who is regarded as the top fighter in the division.  On the same night, after stopping Tony Bellew, Stevenson said that he didn't have a problem facing Kovalev, but pointed out that there are bigger fights outs there like facing IBF champion and future hall of famer Bernard Hopkins or 168 pound kingpin Carl Froch.

In recent interviews on BoxingScene.com, Kovalev and his team insinuated that Stevenson isn't in a hurry to face the power punching Russian and said that Kovalev would prove to be the "kryptonite" to defeat the fighter known as Superman. 

Stevenson found the comments amusing and said that his resume more than speaks for itself.

"I am number one in the light heavyweight division and I am not scared of anybody.  I fought Chad Dawson who is a big name in the sport and a big name at light heavyweight. He was the champion at light heavyweight and then I fight Tavoris Cloud back to back.  One has boxing (skills) and one has power and never stops so I'm not going to fight Kovalev? (Laughing) Come on man (laughs some more).  It is funny. It doesn't make sense you know," Stevenson told BoxingScene.com while also revealing that Kovalev is indeed on his hit list for 2014.

"I would like to fight Bernard Hopkins because he is a big name in the sport. I would like to fight Carl Froch because he is from England and he is big over there. It is interesting because when I was at 168 I was the number one contender but the fight never happened. Now I am the champ at 175 and I would like to fight Carl Froch and Bernard Hopkins. Kovalev has won a couple fights and now he's a champion. In the three fights (I have) this year I am going to fight Kovalev.  I want to let the fans know that the fight will happen. My promoter is working on that with Main Events.  Kovalev gas the number of my promoter. All he has to do is call. It is not a problem."

Superb fight, fan of both. I'm noway near as confident as most are Kovalev takes this. 50/50 shoot out IMO, I wouldn't at all be surprised if either guy gets taken out as early as the first. I've personally seen…

Both are on the same level it could go either way IMO. Both have great power and some skill so both could get knocked out.
