Adam Etches Expects Tough Outing For WBC Youth Belt

HAMMER-FISTED Sheffield boxer Adam Etches has been given the opportunity to win his third professional title.

'The Bomber' will face tough Mexican Felipe De la Paz Teniente for the vacant WBC Youth middleweight title at the Ponds Forge Arena in his home city on April 26.

Etches, 23, already holds the IBF Youth crown at middleweight and super-middleweight and winning another belt should help to catapult him further up the world rankings.

Nicknamed "Cubano", De la Paz Teniente is something an unknown quantity, but he's amassed a 12-1 (6 KOs) record in his home country - which is widely regarded as one of the toughest circuits on the planet.

"I've not seen anything of him, but I can tell by his record he's going to be tough," Adam said.

"Everyone knows how good Mexican boxers are and you don't win 12 fights and get six knockouts over there if you can't fight.

"He'll be coming over full of confidence and he probably thinks he's going to knock me out, but I've never even been hurt as a pro so he'll get a shock.

"I want to be fighting for the British title this year and my ultimate goal is to win a world champion so I can't afford to slip up in this fight. I have to make sure I'm the best I can be so I'm not taking him lightly".

Etches v De la Paz Teniente is the chief supporting contest to Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne's Commonwealth heavyweight title tussle with Canada's Eric Martel Bahoeli. The bill also features unbeaten Sheffield lightweight Scott Jenkins, Kirkham's Adam Little and the UK debut of hard-hitting Belarusian Kirill Relikh.

Ticket prices are priced at 35 (General Admission), 55 (Reserved Floor Seats), 75 (Ringside) and 100 (VIP Ringside). They can be purchased from 07747 474703.
