Abregu's Ring Return Seems Certain For October Date

By Francisco Salazar

Looks like Luis Carlos Abregu could return to the ring sometime in October, Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler confirmed in an email to Boxingscene.com.

There were rumors a few weeks ago regarding Abregu and whom he would face. One rumor had Abregu fighting on the Top Rank card at Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 7th, but Trampler said was incorrect.

Instead, Trampler stated Abregu could possibly face once-beaten Wale Omotoso or unbeaten Brad Solomon.

The likelihood of Abregu fighting in October is very high. Top Rank has three dates scheduled for that month, October 5th in Orlando, October 12th in Las Vegas, and October 19th in Denver. The cards will likely be televised by HBO and HBO Pay Per View (October 12th card).

Abreu further solidified an October return to the ring by confirming that in an interview with Boxingscene.com European writer Ben Jacobs.

The hard-hitting Abregu (35-1, 28 KOs), from Salta, Argentina, is coming off a 10 round unanimous decision over Antonin Decarie in Buenos Aires on April 27th.

I'm fine with either.... Solomon needs to fight more anyway. IMO, would love it if he was Vargas's TBA

Abregu is one of the most underappreciated fighters in the sport today.
