WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KOs) has revealed that his promoters have started negotiations to secure former middleweight king Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KOs) for a potential fight in 2013. Initially, Pavlik was set to face WBC/WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KOs) early next year, but the unbeaten champion suffered a shoulder injury and the bout has been eventually cancelled. Abraham is first going to have a rematch with Robert Stieglitz, possibly on March 30th or April 6th.
“Our promoters have been negotiating. If Pavlik agrees [to face me], our fight will take place. However, the exact date has not been set yet,” Abraham told Armenia News.
Abraham’s last ring appearance took place earlier this month when he retained his title with a win over French fighter Mehdi Bouadla by technical knockout in the 8th round. Pavlik has been out of the ring since his unanimous decision victory over Will Rosinsky in July.
