Abraham Not Ruling Out Pavlik For a 2013 Defense

By BoxingBet.pl

WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KOs) has revealed that his promoters have started negotiations to secure former middleweight king Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KOs) for a potential fight in 2013. Initially, Pavlik was set to face WBC/WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KOs) early next year, but the unbeaten champion suffered a shoulder injury and the bout has been eventually cancelled. Abraham is first going to have a rematch with Robert Stieglitz, possibly on March 30th or April 6th.

“Our promoters have been negotiating. If Pavlik agrees [to face me], our fight will take place. However, the exact date has not been set yet,” Abraham told Armenia News.

Abraham’s last ring appearance took place earlier this month when he retained his title with a win over French fighter Mehdi Bouadla by technical knockout in the 8th round. Pavlik has been out of the ring since his unanimous decision victory over Will Rosinsky in July.

Given Arthur Abraham's poor workrate at 168, I really think Kelly could win this fight. I would have much rather seen this fight happen 3-4 years ago when they were both campaigning at 160.

This fight is 5 years late BUT it still has it's luster. This fight was red-hot when Pavlik was the middleweight king and Abraham was an undefeated champ hiding out in Europe. Hope it happens. Guaranteed barn-burner!!!! :boxing:
