Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), expects his fighter to win at least eight of the twelve rounds against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs).
The two boxers are finally set to collide on September 16th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry.
In his last 24 fights, Golovkin has stopped 23 opponents in eleven rounds or less.
In March, Daniel Jacobs snapped Golovkin 23 fight knockout streak, by taking GGG the full twelve round distance at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Sanchez does not view the upcoming assignment as an easy fight for his man. This will be the first contest for Canelo at the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds.
"It’s a difficult fight for both guys, I think both guys get hit. I think Alvarez will get hurt, I think Golovkin wins 116-112 on the cards, or stops him in the eleventh or twelfth round," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Over years, a lot of big fights have failed to live up to the hype - like Oscar De La Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad, Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye, Golovkin vs. David Lemieux and Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao.
But Sanchez expects this particular contest to live up to the hype with a lot of fireworks and excitement.
"I think these are two guys that are going to come forward, two guys that are going to throw punches and are not afraid to get hit. It’s two guys that have excellent power and good defensive skills, so it’s going to be a fight until somebody takes over," Sanchez said.
"It’s a fight that is going to be very exciting and dramatic for the fans. When that one particular fighter takes over, which will be around the seventh or eight round, I think that’s when Golovkin will take over and dominate. Not that Canelo is not going to be in the fight, he’s going to be in the fight because he’s a warrior, but I think we’re going to be treated to a great fight."
