Abdusalamov-Pettaway Set For Martinez vs Macklin Card

By Ruslan Chikov

A deal has been reached for rising heavyweight prospect Magomed Abdusalamov (13-0, 13KOs) to face Jason Pettaway (11-0, 8KOs) on the undercard to Sergio Martinez-Matthew Macklin on March 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The bout will be first ten or twelve rounder for Mago, with a WBC regional title at stake. Last Friday night in Las Vegas, Mago knocked out undefeated Cuban Pedro Rodriguez in two rounds. Pettaway last fought on January 7th, knocking out Juan Carlos Robles in the second round.

Abdusalamov was kind of exposed in his last fight. I'm not sure how far he'll get anymore after having high hopes for him.

There is no guarantee of an early KO for Abdusalamov in this one. Pettaway is a good boxer.

if he wants better fights winning a regional belt is a good way to get a higher ranking. whatever belt is at stake will give abdusalamov a top 10-15 ranking in the WBC. welliver & stiverne hold several regional belts…
