Daniel Lozano moved past the lone loss of his career with a convincing 8th round stoppage of Antonio 'Tostado' Garcia in their super flyweight bout Friday evening at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, Florida.

Three knockdowns sealed the deal for Lozano, who was stopped in eight rounds in his previous ring appearance nearly one year ago.

Action was plentiful but also one way for the most part as Lozano proved to be too much for Garcia, a former title challenger who never seemed fully committed to leaving it all in the ring. Lozano was warned several times for low blows, though several of the shots appeared to be borderline and means for Garcia to take an unofficial time out.

Garcia was ultimately shown the exit in round eight, when Lozano saw his opening and went full throttle. Three knockdowns came at various stages of the round, before the referee mercifully halted the contest at 2:02 of round eight.

The win on Friday was the latest in a summer super flyweight tournament running on Telemundo. With the victory, Lozano (12-1, 9KOs) will most likely move on to a fall clash with Jonathan Vidal, who scored an eighth round stoppage of his own two weeks ago in Orlando, Florida.

Garcia (13-3, 6KOs) has now lost two straight, including a 4th round knockout loss to long-reigning super flyweight titilst Omar Narvaez in May.

Given the history of super flyweight success on Telemundo, it's possible that the winner of a proposed Lozano-Vidal fall clash goes on to claim a title shot of his own. Garcia's opportunity came after an upset win over Vidal this past March, also in Tampa; David Carmona beat Garcia last September in Mexico to earn a title fight versus Narvaez, suffering a 7th round knockout last December.

Neither Lozano nor Vidal have yet challenged for a major title. Lozano was being groomed for stardom before running into Matthew Villanueva, suffering an 8th round knockout in this very venue last October. Vidal (18-2, 10KOs) had lost two straight prior to his knockout win over Juan Kantun in July.

In the evening's chief support, Andrey Klimov picked up his second straight win after forcing Guillermo Avila to quit on his stool following eight rounds of action.

Avila has gained a reputation as a spoiler, but was out of his element at super featherweight after having spent most of his career in the 122 lb. and 126 lb. divisions. This much was evident as the fight progressed, as action was competitive for about a round before Klimov took over.

The beginning of the end came in the final round of action. Klimov poured on the offensive attack against Avila, who was battered and bruised including cuts and swelling under his left eye. The beating endured was enough to convince his corner to not allow the 22-year old to come out for the ninth round.

The official time was 3:00 of round eight.

Klimov improves to 18-1 (9KOs). The 32-year old Russian boxer has only lost to Terence Crawford, a rising contender at the time of their HBO-televised bout last October who has gone on to become a leading lightweight titlist.

Avila (12-3, 9KOs) has now lost two straight and three of his last four. All of his career losses have taken place on Telemundo, beginning with a controversial decision defeat at the hands of former 122 lb. titlist Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.

A rematch was on tap for the season premiere of Boxeo Telemundo in March, only for Vazquez to withdraw and abruptly defect from Felix 'Tuto' Zabala's All-Star Boxing. Avila went on to face Jonathan Oquendo, dropping a 12-round decision.
