Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi, who sat ringside at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Saturday night, felt Chris Algieri put on a boxing clinic to capture the WBO junior welterweight championship from the heavily favored Ruslan "Siberian Rocky" Provodnikov.

Two judges scored it 114-112 for Algieri and the third had Provodnikov way up with a 117-109 tally. Algieri was down twice in the first round and his right eye was damaged from the first knockdown. By the midway point of the fight, Algieri's eye was practically swollen shut and his nose was continuously bleeding.

Those who saw Agieri as the winner - saw him as being the more active, more accurate boxer in most of the rounds.

"Before the fight it reminded me of myself and Cotto. An undefeated New York hot shot with an ESPN level upbringing against the established champion, and Chris was kind of in similar circumstances. I had him winning eight rounds to four. It was nice to see that not everybody judges damage, you judge rounds individually," Malignaggi explained to BoxingScene.com.

"It's nice to see that some people [scored it right], not everybody, because one judge we have to get him a thick pair of glasses and [get them for] some writers too. The rest of us, if you actually watch the fight - Provodnikov did not make an adjustment. He didn't make an adjustment in the entire twelve rounds. He stopped landing anything of note. He would land one of note shot per round - if even that. Maybe one, two, three shots a round. Some of them Chris was riding with so they weren't even landing clean and others Chris was blocking them. They made a nice impact but on [Chris'] gloves."

"You really have to watch the fight. Chris was pot-shotting him the whole way. He was confusing him. He couldn't make an adjustment. You can't give rounds to a guy who can't make an adjustment."
