LOS ANGELES --- Former two-time world champion Julio Diaz is still trying to figure out how he wasn't awarded the decision when he fought Amir Khan nearly a year ago.

Diaz hopes to end his bad luck with the judges, which also includes a draw and a decision loss to Shawn Porter, when he takes on Keith Thurman for the interim WBA welterweight title on Saturday at StubHub Center in Carson on Showtime.

"Amir Khan is a very talented, fast, strong opponent and this old fighter kept up with that speed," Diaz said at the Westside Boxing Club. "I controlled the fight. I dropped him. I hurt him in many rounds. I hurt him every round and still I don't know how I lost the fight."

Khan has a fight coming up against Luis Collazo on the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana undercard on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV.

"I think Khan is too fast and too smooth in there," Diaz said. "But if Khan makes a mistake, which he always does, and gets caught up in the moment because he likes to bang, then he'll get caught. I think if Khan sticks to the game plan and fights his style he shouldn't have a problem."

Diaz continues to headline fight cards despite the three-fight winless streak,

"For so long they said I'm done," Diaz said, "but I keep on headlining main events. Why is that? That's not winning. I come from losses. Why am I still here doing main events? My last fight a main event. My other fight a main event. My previous fight a main event. So I'm glad they appreciate my performances. To me, boxing these days the people want to see performances not just a bunch of boring victories."

Diaz has never been called boring.
