Former champion Amir Khan (26-3, 18KOs) has confirmed that he broke away from trainer Freddie Roach.

BoxingScene.com reported two days ago that Khan's management wanted Roach to dump Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Manny Pacquiao - and commit more time to Khan's training camps. Roach refused.

"They told me this, and this is pretty good.....they told me if I make Amir number one, and get rid of Manny and Chavez, they will still come back to me," Roach told BoxingScene.com. "[They said] if we're number one and you get rid of Manny and Chavez, we'll stay with you. I told them 'I can't do that.' They asked me that question face to face and on the phone."

Khan, after suffering back to back defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, complained about Roach consistently pairing him with other boxers in joint training camps.

"Officially I've left Freddie Roach. Just spoke to him and [we] had a good professional chat and maybe in the future we'll work together. Freddie understood why I'm looking at other trainers and wished me all the best for the future," Khan said.

The British star is expected to reveal his new trainer on Saturday.

Khan was scheduled to return to HBO on December 15th, but now that date seems to be taken by WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. According to a network insider, HBO rejected a proposed fight between Khan and former champion Humberto Soto.
