WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) considers his upcoming defense against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) as the biggest fight of his career. Cotto advised Raul Alzaga that he already started training for the May 5th clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Cotto's trainer, Pedro Diaz of Cuba, is already in Puerto Rico and the training has officially begun.

The promotional tour will tentatively run from February 26 to March 3, with stops in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico and possibly Mexico. The first stop, according to Cotto, begins in Orlando during the N.B.A's All Star game, and the next stop will be a press conference in Puerto Rico, which is going to be open to the public.

"Our condition for this fight will be the best. Right now I've already had several days of preparation and won't stop until May 5. We will [hold the training camp] in [Orlando] Florida again [once the promotional tour is finished], but Pedro is already in Puerto Rico and a few days ago we started working. For the Antonio Margarito fight, Pedro Luis surrendered his body and soul to prepare the winning path. This time is no exception," Cotto said.

The Puerto Rican star is already thinner than usual. Cotto revealed that he never stopped taking care of his body since the Margarito rematch in December.

"He has not stopped working in the gym or running since the Margarito fight. In fact, he is below 170 pounds, which means that he only needs to lose 15 pounds or less to make the weight of 154 pounds," said his press director, Bryan Perez.

"He knows that a victory would mean a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, or even another fight with Mayweather Jr. and they are fighting for a lot of money."
