BoxingScene.com has been advised that a middleweight bout, between former champion/veteran Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25KOs) and up and coming unbeaten contender Peter Quillin (26-0, 20KOs), is being discussed for the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto pay-per-view undercard on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Wright would return for the first time in over two years. Back in April of 2009, Wright came back from a similar layoff to Paul Williams, and lost a twelve round unanimous decision. Back then, Wright admitted that his timing was off and fighting an opponent like Williams, who threw over 100 punches per round from awkward angles, presented a problem.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations told BoxingScene the following - "Winky could have milked the public by taking easy fights on ESPN and Telefutura, but he's an old school fighter and he wanted to show these young fighters and these young champions how a real fighter does it. He wants to show people that he didn't go anywhere. He didn't want to return against some mismatched opponent like Jermain Taylor did in December. If it's not a competitive fight, he can't get up for that fight. He wanted a young, strong, hungry opponent who is coming to fight."

WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is still pegged for the co-feature position on the pay-per-view, and former three division world champion "Sugar" Shane Molsey is still a likely possibility to test the Mexican superstar.
