Carl Froch fired another shot across the bows of undefeated American Andre Dirrell – who challenges for Froch’s WBC super-middleweight title at the Trent Arena, Nottingham on Saturday night.  Froch, 32, told The Mirror that his superior punch power would have the last word in a contest that has sparked some fiery pre-fight hyperbole.

“My hooks will break his body and his heart and finally shut him up,” blasted Froch.  “This is all part of a plan to join the great British fighters from the past and take my place next to them in history.  I wish that I could travel back in time and fight Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn at their peaks.  They were amazingly popular at the time and they were in some great fights, but I would beat them if they were here today.

He continued: “I'm not just saying that and I'm not being disrespectful, but I have the skills to beat them.  I wanted Joe Calzaghe for the same reason - I wanted to beat him to prove that I belong with the best fighters.  All world champions should want to fight and beat the best available, and that is what I'm doing.

“I won the world title from an unbeaten fighter [Jean Pascal] and he has now won the world light heavyweight title.  In my first defence I went to America and met a man who held all four middleweight world titles [Jermain Taylor].  I was the underdog and came back from my first ever knockdown to win in the last round.  I'm in with another unbeaten fighter again and I truly believe that is an amazing hat-trick.  I'm not fighting old bums or washed-up nobodies like a lot of British world champions have done in the past.”

Froch’s wars with Jean Pascal and Jermain Taylor have seen his stock rise; however, Carl took a lot of clean shots in both fights, prompting many people to predict an upset win for Dirrell come Saturday night.

Still, Froch has been there and done it; Dirrell is not hard to hit and has been floored before.  Carl will take heart from the way he weathered Jermain Taylor’s early assault before finishing his man at 2:46 of the twelfth and final round.

Froch-Dirrell is part of the Super Six tournament; Primetime PPV televises here in the UK, the channel will also show the Arthur Abraham-Jermain Taylor contest, which takes place in Germany on the same night.  You can register for this bumper PPV event by phoning 0871 200 4444.
