Ignacio Beristan, who’s the Manager of Juan Manuel and Rafael Marquez, says they’re going to fight Marco Antonio Barrera and Israel Vazquez again.
Don Ignacio was a guest at the Golden Fists Amateur Tournament in Mexico City, which was officially inaugurated by WBC President Jose Sulaiman.
Don Ignacio said that Rafael WILL fight Israel Vazquez on August 4th. He said several possible venues were being discussed including The Home Depot Center in Carson City, California again, Las Vegas and possibly Hidalgo in Texas.
He commented: “The re-match is going to be explosive, and I think it’s going to be even better than the first! Rafael is so strong and powerful, and Israel won’t be taking a step backwards either. We were happy to give Israel a re-match because he’s a tremendous fighter, a 100 percent sportsman and a gentleman. But Rafael is training to repeat the dose he administered in fight one.”
The two fought a sizzling war for seven rounds in which Israel decked Rafael in the third. But Rafael savagely fought back, and Israel retired with a nose injury, which was hampering his breathing.
Concerning Juan Manuel, Don Ignacio explained that he’ll be fighting on September 15th, and Golden Boy’s preference is a re-match against Marco Antonio Barrera, but another possible opponent, could be Rocky Juarez.
Don Ignacio’s preference is Barrera. He said: “It’s a chance for Juan Manuel to win even more convincingly second time around, reinforcing his first points victory over Marco.”
The feud between Golden Boy and Top Rank has yet to be resolved, and until it is, a even more anticipated re-match between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao isn’t going to happen. But Don Ignacio insisted: “Juan Manuel really wants to fight Manny again to show that he won the first time and to win again. It’s also an opportunity for a very good pay day!”
