Promoter Eddie Hearn is furious with the recent headlines announcing that a deal is close for a welterweight unification between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Devon Alexander. Hearn promotes undefeated Kell Brook, the mandatory challenger to Alexander's IBF title. Brook was scheduled to fight Alexander on January 19th, but withdrew with an ankle injury. The fight was rescheduled for February 23rd. Alexander withdrew a few days ago with a right bicep injury - and now the news hits the net that he's close to a Mayweather fight.

Mayweather disclosed the information on his personal Twitter account. Hearn will do everything in his power to ensure Alexander does not fight Mayweather, at least not with the IBF's title at stake.

"Number 1, we have a signed contract to fight Devon Alexander for the IBF title. Number 2, If they want Alexander vs. Mayweather to be a unification - they would have to ask for an exemption from the IBF which is very unlikely given [that] we already have signed contracts and any exemption would have to take place within 90 days of last bout. We questioned the injury and now we await news from Golden Boy which, given the news that they are looking to enter the UK promoting market, should be interesting. We will fight tooth and nail for Kell Brook and thanks for your support," stated Hearn
