Oasis Hotel Complex, Cancun, Mexico - Returning for the first time since last October's TKO loss to Antonio DeMarco, "El Nino De Oro" Jorge Linares (31-3, 20KOs) was stopped in two rounds by hard-hitter Sergio Thompson (22-2, 20KOs). Thompson took the fight to Linares and started testing the former champion's chin and caught him with several good shots. By the end of the round, Linares started firing back with his own hard shots. In the second, Thompson rocked Linares with a variety of punches and put him down. Linares beat the count, looked hurt, and had a nasty cut open up above the left eye - and the fight was stopped.

Linares already had July rematch scheduled with WBC lightweight champion DeMarco in Los Angeles, but obviously that fight is now down the drain.
