It was a shocking clash at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. Even though he's the champion, most had WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria (30-3, 17KOs) as the underdog against power-punching challenger and former champion Giovani Segura. Instead of Segura blasting him out, Viloria dominated the fight, did major damage to the challenger's face and put him away in the eight round.

Viloria had a plan, never feared Segura's power, and knew what to do to put him away. Segura (28-2-1, 24KOs) suffered his second career defeat and lost for the first time by knockout. He suffered a broken orbital bone in the fight and was hospitalized when the contest was over.

“I followed the game plan and the fight went so easy even if he’s a hard-hitter. He fought well but my determination to keep this title prevails. This is very sweet [the win]. It is sweeter than my bouts against Ulises Solis and Julius Cesar Miranda," Viloria told the Manila Times.
