Southpaw supremo Manny Pacquiao’s right hand man and uber agent Michael Koncz said late Wednesday night that he was “not aware” that Sugar Shane Mosley had vociferously expressed a desire to quit on his stool during the May 7 lopsided bout in Las Vegas.

“You’re telling me now that Showtime has it on tape, on their microphone so we know it’s accurate,” Koncz told me by phone from Los Angeles. “So we know it happened. But I was not aware of it and neither was Manny.”

Showtime’s nifty Fight Camp 360 program captures the Mosley corner drama with Mosley wanting to exit stage left while determined trainer Naazim Richardson forcefully puts the kibosh on his fighter’s impulse.

What Koncz questions, in light of this amazing revelation, is why Richardson, the veteran trainer from Philadelphia who also handles 46 year old wonder Bernard Hopkins, did not comply with Mosley’s fervent desire for no mas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“Why wouldn’t the trainer do what the fighter asks him to do, especially when it’s some boxer with four or five bouts but Mosley, a highly accomplished and experienced veteran? I wonder why Richardson did not follow the instructions from his fighter.

“If there ever was a situation where Manny wanted a fight stopped, you know it would be stopped, for sure. This is a decision that the great fighters get to make.

“In this kind of case, I’d have to say that the fighter knows best,” Koncz said. “I questioned why the (Antonio) Margarito corner did not stop the beating he took from Manny, although that situation was a little different and now I question why they didn’t let Mosley quit.”

Koncz said he knew that Mosley “did not want to engage” when Pacman floored the Hall Of Fame level Californian in the third round.
