There is talk in the Mexican press that a lightweight clash between Marco Antonio Barrera and WBC champion Humberto Soto is being discussed for the month of September in Mexico.

Barrera (66-7, 43KOs) made his return to the ring last Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. He won a lopsided decision over Adailton De Jesus. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has inidicated that Soto is the frontrunner to fight Barrera next. The option, WBA champion Miguel Acosta, is a backup possibility.

Because the fight will be held in Mexico, Soto presents himself as the much bigger draw when compared to Acosta. Arum says there is still a chance that Barrera takes one more tuneup before a fight with Soto takes place, but his gut tells him the Mexican warrior will head directly to a Soto fight.

"My inclination is that he'll probably move into a fight with Humberto Soto. For the Mexicans, that would be a huge, huge fight to say the least. The Humberto Soto fight would be [the frontrunner] as opposed to Acosta. Acosta's a possibility, but Soto is a bigger fight for the Mexican fans," Arum said.
