Former champion Edgar Sosa had surgery in Mexico on Tuesday afternoon for injuries that he suffered during the two round TKO loss to Rodel Mayol from last Saturday. Sosa lost his WBC junior flyweight title to Mayol after being battered against the ropes in the second round, which led to the ref jumping in to stop the contest. During that second round, there was a bad clash of heads that sent Sosa down and opened up a cut on his cheek. He was stopped not long after the doctor resumed the fight.

Sosa has filed an official protest with the WBC and the Mexican boxing commission, claiming the head clash was intentional on the part of Mayol. The ref's ruling could play an important role. He ruled the clash of heads as an intentional foul and took a point away from Mayol. Sosa says the clash of heads left him "out on his feet" and he couldn't defend himself.

During the three hour surgery, Dr. Adelaida Lσpez Chavira placed two titanium plates and screws into Sosa's face. He should be cleared to return in five to six months. One plate was placed around the orbital bone area below Sosa's left eye. The other was placed in the upper left cheekbone/jaw area. The bone in the area was shifted out of place by the head clash.

"We also made a correction to the nasal septum, which was damaged and therefore he could not breathe. There was clotted blood drained below the left eye. He left the operating room with plugs in the nostrils to protect the areas operated and they will remain there for five or six days. He'll be in the hospital for at least two days," the doctor told ESTO

i haven't heard of a decision that has been reversed because of a protest. filing a protest is not a good option. sosa should exercise the rematch clause in the contract. that's a sound option. he should stop find excuses for his loss!

Mark Vester is in error in saying that the referee ruled the clash of heads as intentional on the part of Mayol which led to a point deduction. Actually, the referee ruled that it was an accidental head butt. The reason why Mayol was deducted a point is because, in accordance with the WBC rules o...

[QUOTE=DocG;6783250]Be objective and review the video carefully....coz it won't lie and it ain't biased!!! Mayol was on the act of a body punch with both foot firmly planted.....look at his head and his left fist.....do you see Mayol's head passing the angle of his left fist? ...... if the hea...
