Talks for a junior flyweight unification bout between WBO champion Ivan Calderon and IBF champion Brian Viloria is coming along. Viloria has a defense scheduled for January 23 against Carlos Tamara in Manila. Calderon is still recovering from the serious cut that he suffered against Rodel Mayol in September.

Ivan Rivera, who co-promotes Calderon with Top Rank, says their number one priority is getting a deal finalized for Viloria. They have met with co-promoter Top Rank, who also have Viloria, and are trying to work out the details.

"The plan we have is to unify with Viloria, who fights on January 23 in the Philippines while Ivan rests. We met with Brian and his representatives, including Bob Arum [head of Top Rank]. We are negotiating the rematch clause. Ivan may fight with Brian in Hawaii. If we get [the rematch clause], we have no objection about going anywhere for the fight," Rivera told El Nuevo Dia.

Not an interesting fight for viloria. Calderon is a boring fighter. A malignaggi copycat. Look at his knockout ratio. Same with malignaggi. They are non-class fighter far from becoming great. They are there just to win mo matter how ugly or how dirty they do it, as long as they win, that's it.

I'd luv to see some unification or at least some bigger fights in the lower weight classes already. This fight sounds gravy. I'd pick Calderon here. :boxing:
His last 3-4 fights end up on the judges scorecards after a headbutt. It seems to me everytime Calderon is on trouble, he tend to lead his head forward so the fight could end up with the judges scorecard
mayol won the title through a headbutt, wtf are you talk...
