WBO super flyweight champion Marvin Sonsona (14-0, 12KOs) vacated his title after not being able to make weight for his bout with Alejandro ’Payasito’ Hernandez (22-7-1, 11 KOs), scheduled to take place at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada. Sonsona was 2.5-pounds over the limit at 117.6. If Hernandez wins their fight, he becomes the champion after weighing in at 115.
BoxingScene.com was advised that Sonsona will return in February at the super bantamweight limit of 122-pounds. The 19-year-old is growing fast. He is listed at 5'7 but his handlers tell me Sonsona has grown by two-inches in the last year and now stands at 5'9. Do not be surprised if Sonsona will go after the WBO's super bantamweight title being vacated by Juan Manuel Lopez. According to the laws of the WBO, a champion can move up in weight and make a request for a number one ranking.
