During a recent chat with Moskovsky Komsomolets, Vitali Klitschko shared his opinion on last Saturday's David Haye-Nikolay Valuev bout for the WBA heavyweight title. The WBC heavyweight champion’s forecast was true but only partially – Haye really looked a little better, but the judges gave the victory to him and not to Valuev, as Klitschko predicted.
“Before the bout I read Valuev’s interview where he said that his team had ruined my plans by arranging the fight with Haye - said the Ukrainian champion – At first I didn’t pay attention to it. But now I understand that he was right. The situation became more complicated because now the Russian doesn’t have a belt, and without it he’s just a Giant, and nothing more.
"The result of the fight between Valuev and Haye is logical. Neither of them has enough strength to knock the other out. I said that Haye would win but the judges would hand the victory to Valuev. It had happened before and I thought that Nikolay will retain his title again."
"However I was wrong about the judges. Why did they give the victory to Haye? I don’t know the details of his contract with Valuev. But I suspect that Haye is already in the “basket” of Don King. I have no idea what King’s further plans are. However that explains why they were able to agree upon everything and to arrange the fight between Valuev and Haye that quickly, it wasn’t accidental."
Vitali assumes that Don King is at least co-promoter of David Haye and predicted the possible rematch of the British fighter with Valuev. As for his own possible participation in the struggle for the WBA belt Vitali underlined: “Now we have to negotiate with Don King instead of Haye”.
