| Arturo Gatti's Widow Loses Bid For 150K, and The Dog
|
|
By Mark Vester In a follow-up to a story posted a few days ago on BoxingScene.com, Amanda Rodrigues lost her bid to grab $150,000 from the estate of her late husband, Arturo Gatti. Montreal Superior Court Justice Paul Chaput also denied her request for custody of the family dog. He did award her $30,000 to pay her legal fees, $10,000 for the care of her young son and access to Gatti's Montreal condo to get her belongings. Rodrigues found the dead body of Gatti on July 11 at their Brazilian resort condo. She was jailed by Brazilian police and held as the main suspect in Gatti's murder. After the autopsy results, Brazilian authorities reclassified Gatti's death as a suicide and Rodrigues was released. She is battling Gatti's family for the champion's estate worth at least $6 million. Gatti's family have a will from 2007 that gives them control of his estate. Rodrigues has a will, dated only three weeks before the fighter's death, that gives her control of everything. Gatti's family have long claimed that Rodrigues forced the fighter to change his will with threats of fleeing the country with their son. And you would have to be a moron to think they would wait 3 months to come out at the end and say "Oh ya, he did kill himself". ... |

[QUOTE=cottokospac;6563149]this is a different case, gatti was murdered, thus this judge will not overlook that. Regardless of the bullshit rulling that went on in brazil. In brazil anyone can be bought out, if she promised the police 500,000 dollars if they drop the case im sure they would drop ... |

I see where Mrs. Gatti has been awarded $40,000. I think the judge is wrong. Whilst the proceedings are ongoing, I believe that she's entitled to being able to live in the manner she was accustomed to, before Gatti died. She's not responsible for the delay, the rest of the family is.

[QUOTE]I see her suit to get $150,000 as quite normal. As the widow, she's entitled to get a reasonable sum every so often for running expenses. Especially since she's the sole heir.
I believe the judge's ruling was wrong.
On another point, it's standard ruling, in every country, I believe to n... |
