WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler sat ringside in Berlin, Germany and watched Arthur Abraham's brutal knockout of Jermain Taylor in the closing seconds of the twelfth and final round. Kessler and Abraham are both stablemates under promotional company Sauerland Event and they are also the co-favorites to win the Super Six tournament. Kessler faces Andre Ward in the first stage of the Super Six on November 21 in Oakland. He could wind up facing Abraham down the line.
"I was impressed with Abraham," Kessler said. "He let Taylor come at him for a couple of rounds and then just went after him. And he sure can hit hard."
Abraham said that he needed a couple of rounds to figure Taylor out, and then he began to put his punches together when he saw Taylor was starting to slow down.
"I need a couple of rounds to analyze my opponent. And then I let him punch himself tired and then I strike back," said Abraham.
Taylor offered no excuses. He never saw the right hand that caught him on the chin and put him down for the count.
"He just surprised me with the right. I didn't see it," Taylor said. "But he hits hard, and he came to fight."
