In what seems to be a risky move, Tomas Rojas (31-11, 22KOs) will face unbeaten Evans Mbamba (16-0, 8KOs) on October 24 at the World Trade Center in Veracruz, Mexico. The event is being put together by Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran. Rojas is scheduled to fight WBA/WBC super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-2, 26KOs) on December 12 at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California. Darchinyan-Rojas is being televised by Showtime.
Rojas is the WBC's interim champion. Interim fights in general are always dangerous because anything can happen; like an upset or possible injury. Mbamba is regarded as a durable fighter from South Africa.
