Andreas Kotelnik: “Amir Khan Not Special, Will Lose Soon”

Former WBA World light welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik doesn’t think that Amir Khan deserved the victory over him, or his belt, in their recent fight. The Ukrainian boxer believes that a title contender has to win more convincingly to take the title away.

“If that bout had taken place in any other country, everything could have been different, - told Kotelnik to turnir.com.ua. – I think that you have to be far superior to beat a champion, you must win convincingly. Amir Khan didn’t do it. It’s not the way you beat a
champion. If we compare this bout to the ones where I had been given a draw, though I’d been much stronger, Khan didn’t show anything special. I wasn’t expecting such subjective refereeing. The judges gave all the rounds to Khan, I believe it’s unjust."

Still Andreas doesn’t think that his career will decline after the loss of the title. He’s also hoping to meet with Khan once again.

“I got the belt in a hard way, but lost it easily, - says Kotelnik. – But the life doesn’t end. If I have an opportunity, I’ll punish Khan in our next bout.

Will there be a rematch? Everything depends on managers now. Khan has a voluntary title defense ahead of him. I’m sure that he is only a temporary champion. I can meet him in two fights. Now I can box for the temporary title and then meet him. It’s only a matter of time, though I’ll have to wait a little. Now it’s up to Khan’s promoter Frank Warren. I personally think that soon Khan’s title will be taken away from him”.
